I've been meaning to edit all the little things I've been writing these last few months and get them up on my blog, and I finally got to it.
It was nice to look back at what's been going on in my life since we moved to Virginia.
But now I need to blog more regularly, if for no other reason than my mom wants me to.
I've been having fun lately catching up with old friends on Facebook, but I'm not so good writing in short little blurbs. I'd update my status there more often, but I tend to ramble on and on.
Hence the blog.
So if you were a fan of the old Major Mom spread the word (and URL).
This month I will be consumed with school applications for the kids for next year. We'll have school visits and testing too.
If you read back over the last few months you'll see how profoundly unhappy I am with our new school. I kept giving it a chance because I thought I might be unfairly comparing it to Southfield, but the truth is that I never really ever felt good about this place.
But we have found a school that we love. It has a much warmer vibe. They have at least five openings in next year's fifth grade, so the girl should be accepted. But their first grade is full (like the first grade at every school in this area...except for ours...and what does that tell you), so we're crossing our fingers.
It really is my daughter who is the most unhappy anyway. If I have to drive an hour and a half every morning to drop the kids off at two schools in two opposite directions next year, I will. My daughter deserves to feel comfortable at school.
Other than that, we're cruising right along in violin. The Suzuki program here cannot compare to the Centenary Suzuki program back in Shreveport but we really love our new teacher.
I'm currently stressing about our sports schedule for the Spring. The soccer and baseball/softball season overlap too much here for the kids to play both sports like they used to do. There are just too many sports and too little time.
It looks like the boy will play baseball and the girl will play soccer. That way neither of us parents will have to coach.
As always, our lives seem to have more than their fair share of weird happenings and silly stories and I resolve to share more of them here in 2009.
Happy New Year!
